Wasenmoos, a very special kind of moorland adventure, gives young and old an opportunity for an intensive nature encounter: whether via leisurely moorland paths, on longer hiking trails, at the lookout pavilion with its glorious views of the Hohe Tauern National Park – you can look forward to wonders beyond measure!
With the conclusion of the first restoration phase in 2006, a 2 km-long theme trail – incl. a lookout pavilion with info materials - was opened. The 30 displays along the way share interesting facts on the fauna and flora of the Wasenmoos, historic peat-farming, renaturation measures and much more…
This unique marshland area, located at elevations ranging from 1200 – 1220 meters, is crossed by numerous drainage ditches. It is distinguished by exceptionally idyllic landscapes which provide a habitat for rare plant and animal species. It is home, for example, to all three of Austria’s domestic “carnivorous” plants: the sundew, butterwort and bladderwort.
The Wasenmoos is a true moorland adventure in the heart of the Kitzbühel Alps, ideally suited for am extraordinary discovery tour. In the upcoming years, visitors will have a wonderful opportunity to see how the landscape is once again being reclaimed by nature, undergoing continual change in the process.
