Nordic Walking
Nordic Walking was first introduced as a new sport in Finland in 1997, successfully establishing itself throughout Central Europe within just a short period of time. Cross-country skiing legend, Matti Heikkilä, originally used this sport as summer training for cross-country athletes. From this experience, sports scientists and doctors, with the assistance of a pole-manufacturer, developed this new and very popular sport.
What is Nordic Walking?
Nordic Walking is a form of endurance sport, in which active walking is assisted by use of special poles. The additional arm-and-pole work makes it possible to enjoy low-impact, yet highly effective full-body training: the upper body is strengthened, the joints are not put under stress and tension is released. Nordic Walking is almost twice as effective as regular power walking without poles. Nordic Walking is definitely something you should take a class in, since there is a danger you might use the poles incorrectly and inefficiently.
Nordic Walking – a sport for everyone!
Nordic Walking is something practically anyone can do, regardless of age and fitness level, no matter where you happen to be. All you need is the right equipment and technique, and nature becomes your very own outdoor fitness studio!
Let´s hit the trails!
When you are working out, either along the banks of the Salzach or on a small loop through our local forests, you activate 90 percent of your total musculature. Often-neglected problem zones, such as the back, arms, shoulders and neck, grow stronger in the process. Whether you are out alone, as a couple or with the whole family, Nordic Walking gives you a healthy way to explore unknown countryside and acquaint yourself with the region’s fauna and flora.
If you are in the mood for a theme hike, would like to learn fascinating facts about our natural world, or are looking for good ways to unwind, then take a look at our selection of excursion opportunities.
