Its existence was first documented as early as 963, when it was referred to as "Stoulveldum". In this deed, a noble lady named Rosmout transfers her "Hube" (a feudal farm) near Taxenbach, along with all rights thereto, to Archbishop Friedrich, receiving as a small compensation another "Hube" near Stuhlfelden („unam hoban ad Stoulveldum“).
In another document from 1160, mention is made of a Pastor Heinrich von Stuhlfelden, clear evidence of an early church presence in the community.
