The wetland complex of Pirtendorfer valley floor at the northern Salzach bank is a remain of the former vast marshy valley floor at the Oberpinzgau. The area originated for activities of river Salzach, which, divided in several river branches and backwaters, caused regular flooding. After river modulations and draining of this area the wetland of Pirtendorfer valley floor remained from one of the backwater branches. Today it is an approx. 10 ha area consisting of alder tree woods, wet thicket, reedy ponds, wet meadows and the Salzach-backwater branch. The Pirtendorfer valley floor and its surrounding wetlands host a biodiverse and characteristic flora and fauna. Especially rare plants are for example spotted orchid, cowbane and the laurel willow.

Access: from Mittersill the road to Stuhlfelden – in front of the Pizzeria Hörfarter turn right – park your car – by foot along the asphalt road straight ahead- turn left – take the gravel path – across the train tracks – turn left into the nature trail Pirtendorfer Talboden.

Snack your way through the berry labyrinth and discover alpine herbs in the rock garden – an adventure for all senses and the whole family. More than 500 different plant species and plant varieties can be found at the herbal garden Hollersbach. Find out more about herbs, starting at the “herbal sun”, the “herbal star”, the “herbal moon”, Celtic wheel and the cottage garden. Guided tours at the herbal garden: from June to September every Tuesday at 10.00 a.m. Duration approx. 2 hours. With your guest card the guided tours are free (bring your card with you!)

Access: take the road to Hollersbach – coming from Mittersill the 1^st exit left – coming from Bramberg the 1^st exit right – directly into the centre of Hollersbach – behind the “Klausnerhaus” you find the herbal garden.

The bog experience offers young and old an intensive encounter with nature. On the 2 – 10 km long ways you can discover many a uniqueness, from rare plant varieties to almost extinct animals. 15 charts inform about the uniqueness of flora and fauna, the historic peat-ditch and much more. Enjoy the view over the Salzach valley to the Hohe Tauern from the vantage point at the pavilion. Make use of the area around the pavilion: play equipment, quiz question for kids, a five senses path, nesting boxes and a wetland biotope enrich the surrounding of the bog. Best time to explore: May until October

Access: follow the Pass Thurn road – parking at the Gasthof Tauernblick – follow the forest road – after 10 m turn right into the small hiking path to the pavilion – entrance Wasenmoos

Does a bee sleep? How long does a bee live? The experience-oriented nature trail at the Hollersbacher Sonnberg answers questions about honey bees, wild bees and cognate species in an interesting way. From the Gasthof Oberkrammern the path brings you to the middle station of Panorambahn Kitzbüheler Alpen. On a length of 2,3 km you climb ca. 300 m in altitude and have superb view on Hollersbach and the mountains of Hohe Tauern (hiking boots required). Alternatively, for your way back you can use the cableway of Panoramabahn Kitzbüheler Alpen.

Access: take the road to Hollersbach – coming from Mittersill 1^st exit right – keep right over the Salzach bridge and along the road – through the underpass – turn right – coming from Bramberg 1^st exit right – turn left – through the underpass – turn right – follow the road – district Grubing – turn left to Gasthof Oberkrammern (parking)
